You can reformat XML code adding the following code in your .emacs:
(require 'sgml-mode)
(defun reformat-xml ()
(interactive)
(save-excursion
(sgml-pretty-print (point-min) (point-max))
(indent-region (point-min) (point-max))))
And executing reformat-xml in your XML buffer then.
